Historique :	Le Cormoran n'est pas un "Cormoran" (jauge à restriction de 1924), mais un monotype Benodet construit en petite série (douze exemplaires) pour l'entraînement à la voile des élèves officiers de l'École Navale. En 1948, un legs de la navigatrice Virginie Hériot permit leur construction par le chantier Craff de Bénodet. Virginie Hériot avait déjà offert onze monotypes brestois à l'école en 1924. Elle fit aussi construire des voiliers de compétition, "Aile" (8m) et "Petite Aile" (6m) en 1922. C'est sur l'un de ces bateaux "L'Aile VI", qu'elle remporta la médaille d'or aux JO d'Amsterdam en 1928. Le monotype "Aile", construit en Finlande avant-guerre, puis en France sous licence est différent. En revanche, son nom est un hommage à la navigatrice. La promotion 1932 des officiers de l'Ecole Navale porte le nom de la navigatrice.
