Historique :	L'oeuvre est une copie de l'icône "Salus populi romani", conservée dans la chapelle Borghèse de l'église Sainte-Marie-Majeure de Rome. Comme dans la toile romaine dont elle est copiée, l'oeuvre présente la Vierge dans une posture proche des icônes de type Hodegetria, mais la main droite est croisée sur la gauche. Elle porte l' anneau marial. Elle a été commandée par Dom Georges, lors de son voyage à Rome entre 1664 et 1666. A son retour, il installe l'oeuvre dans son abbatiale. Lors de la dispersion des biens de l'Abbaye, elle est déposée à Saint-Aubin.
