le soutien et la promotion de l'art contemporain par l'action conjuguée de : - la constitution d'un patrimoine public d'art contemporain par l'acquisition et la commande d'oeuvres d'artistes francais et étrangers vivants, oeuvres représentatives des orientations les plus actuelles de la création contemporaine - la conservation et la gestion du fonds d'oeuvres constitué - la diffusion de ce fons sur l'ensemble du territoire régional à titre principal, ainsi qu'à l'extérieur tant au niveau national qu'international, afin de sensibiliser tous les publics aux formes contemporaines de la création - le soutien à la création en relation directe avec les artistes (expositions, commandes, productions) - la participation au développement de la diffusion et de la connaissance des oeuvres d'art contemporain, à partir du fonsds d'oeuvres constitués et dans le cadre d'échanges ou productions avec d'autres partenaires publiques et privés, français et étrangers - la programmation d'actions pédagogiques régulières, de sensibilisation et de formation en direction des publics les plus divers ainsi que le dévelopement et la gestion d'un centre de ressources sur l'art contemporain et d'une manière générale toutes les activités conformes à la charte des missions de servie public pour les institutions d'art contemporain ainsi qu'aux recommandations ministérielles relatives aux Fonds Régionaux d'Art contemporain
